The early signing period for basketball recruits has arrived, and although sources close to O.J. Mayo have said he “there’s no other place that he’s even thinking about” but USC, the much-ballyhooed prep hoops star is not expected to formally sign with the Trojans yet.
Adding to the intrigue is the fact that Mayo’s been a pretty elusive character since orally committing to the Trojans in July at the ABCD Camp in New Jersey. He has changed his cell phone number three times in the past two months, according to the L.A. Daily News.
All of this, coupled with the fact that Mayo’s other top considerations were rumored to include defending National Champion Florida, leaves Trojan fans just a bit nervous about the status of what would probably be the top hoops recruit in the history of the school.
O.J., if you’re listening — what’s it going to take to get you into some cardinal and gold? We’ve got a shiny new arena just begging for a test drive.
