Cal to #2, USC falls to #10

Saturday’s debacle against Stanford has dropped the Trojans to the AP’s #10 spot. Cal, previously #3, has moved up during their bye-weekend filling the Trojan vacancy at spot #2. Oregon, also on a bye, moved up from #14 to land at #9. Arizona State elevated their position with a win over Washington State, moving from #18 to #14.

Overall, the Pac-10 looks strong with four teams in the Top-15, three of them in the top-10. But with the now #10 Trojans facing each of their conference contenders on the road (#2 Cal, #9 Oregon and #14 Arizona State), USC faces a rough uphill battle.

In the end if there are multiple one-loss teams and if USC manages to win out convincingly, it might just be the strength of their road-schedule that saves the Trojans a distant glimmer of a National Championship berth.

  1. 10 seems a little harsh of a drop. Should BC and So. Florida be ranked that high??? They both played small school div II schools, BC played UMass and So. Florida played Elon. That’s like SC playing schools like Cal Poly or one of the JC’s out here.

  2. Yeah, but Florida’s losses came by close margins to good ranked teams. The drop is proportionate to the loss.

  3. I was talking about South Florida, not the Gators

  4. You’ve got to be kidding me!!!! USC is lucky to still be in the top 25. It is a supreme injustice to every other team in the top 25 and some not that USC is so high. Talk about a double standard…App. State would have smothered that Stanford team just like everyone else did this year. USC has proved once again that it is a paper champion. Not even the “strength of the road schedule” will save this CRAP team. In any reasonable person’s mind…USC is officially out of contention for a BCS game. I’m sorry…but you lose to Stanford and that’s how it goes.

Of course, all this is irrelevant because a team as undisciplined as this USC team will predictably continue its slide into the coming weeks because they lack both pride and emotion. If the piss poor teams on the schedule (like ND) don’t pick them off…the ferocious CAL will ABSOLUTELY SMOTHER SC! Troy will burn this year…I guarantee.
