Leinart to Miss Rest of Season

Matt Leinart’s already frustrating season has been cut short. Way short. Cardinals’ coach Whisenhunt has placed Leinart on injured-reserve following a broken collar-bone against the Rams last Sunday, effectively ending the second-year quarterback’s 2007 season. Leinart, already unhappy about sharing the two quarterback system with veteran Kurt Warner, can only watch as Warner will attempt to take control and lead the team.

Not Forgotten…Just Replaced: Matt Leinart’s replacement is quarterback Tim Rattay. The former Buccaneers and 49ers quarterback, Rattay signed with the Cardinals as a free agent for a single year.

Whisenhunt says the decision to place Leinart on IR is simply an issue of time:

“Whenever you have a fracture there will be six weeks or however long it takes to heal,” Whisenhunt said, “and then, especially because it is his throwing shoulder, you have to do the rehabilitation of it throwing the football. Who knows what it could have been? Could have been eight weeks, could have been 12 weeks…”

  1. matt sucks, the end.

  2. matt was just another trojan qb who championed mediocrity in the nfl. well, what else is new. more then likely he will probably be quinn’s back up one day.

  3. Hate to see this happen. I guess the initiation process to the NFL through teams like the Cardinals is destined to be problematic. Leinart when healthy, had some good moments and games. His leadership against the undefeated Chicago Bears on MNF last year was a great example. Too bad the coaching staff decided to play the “conservative, not to loose” card and run the ball towards the end of the game. Resulting in one of many MISSED last second FG’s. The guy can PLAY, given the chance he’s not running for his life every game. And why is he running for his life? Other teammates aren’t executing “their” assignments(protect the QB).
