With starter John David Booty’s fractured fingertip much worse, “like a sausage,” Coach Pete Carroll said Tuesday, the attention turns to backup Mark Sanchez, who will receive all the first-team reps this week in preparation for his first career start Saturday against Arizona.

Even if Booty’s broken middle finger on his right throwing hand is better by then, Carroll said, the Trojans might still hold him in reserve to see what Sanchez can do.
