Daniel Hackett played against Arizona State despite the hip-pointer he suffered against Arizona on Thursday. Still, remnants of the injury were present, as in his 18 minutes of play, Hackett only accounted for 2 points and 3 rebounds. It was Taj Gibson’s turn to fill the void and play OJ Mayo’s wingman, pulling in 19 points, 7 rebounds and four blocked shots. Mayo finished with 20pts which included a pair of threes as the Trojans went on to beat the Sun Devils, 67-53.
Freshman Davon Jefferson showed great defensive prowess with 9 rebounds, two blocked shots and a steal, all while raking in 11 points for the Trojans. Dwight Lewis had 9 points including a pair of threes. Angelo Johnson (31 minutes) and Keith Wilkinson (17 minutes) each got some good time on the court. Johnson came up with 4 points, 4 rebounds, while Wilkinson had two each.
On the ASU side, their Los Angeles born star guard James Harden picked up 26 points. The Sun Devil’s Pendergraph picked up 10 points and Glasser had 8 points.
USC outshot Arizona State 51.1% to the Sun Devils 40% from the field. The Trojans also out-rebounded the Sun Devils 29-19. Still it was close for the majority of the game, with the lead never see-sawing over 4 points for either team. Then with about 13 minutes left in the game the Trojans took control, outscoring ASU 29-15, and sealing the 67-53 victory at the Galen Center.
