The New York Giants have just signed former Jaguars safety Sammy Knight to replace Gibril Wilson, who bolted to Oakland for big money over the weekend. Knight, 32, will be playing for his fifth team in 12 years.
I don’t think he’s a huge downgrade from Wilson. Knight had four interceptions last season and has 42 during his career. He’s also been remarkably durable over the years, sitting out only two games in 11 years.
Knight went to the Pro Bowl as a New Orleans Saint in 2001. It’s not clear whether he’ll play free or strong safety, but it doesn’t really matter in the Giants’ defensive scheme.
