The Trojans like to go into Summer with an established leader and this year is no different. As reported on SI.com, Pete Carroll announced his decision before Tuesday’s practice: Junior Mark Sanchez is the man. The LA Times elaborated on the story, quoting Carroll as saying:

“The advantage that Mark has had by being around . . . just gives him a decisive advantage and he was able to come out here and battle and throw the ball well and play with confidence and give himself the spot.”

In 2007 Sanchez took a big leap when Booty went down with a broken finger, and Sanchez started the next three games against Arizona, Notre Dame and a very good Dennis Dixon Oregon team. During the season he went 69 of 114 for 695 yards, 7 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian met with backup quarterbacks Mustain and Corp to inform them of the decision.
