Shortly after Clay Matthews redshirt season in 2004, he watched as USC coaches signed one of the greatest linebacker classes in team history, as Rey Maualuga, Brian Cushing, Luthur Brown and Kaluka Maiava all committed to the Trojans. Four years later, Matthews watched as USC coaches spent spring practice finding ways to get him on the field, despite the fact that all four of those linebackers remain on the roster.
