First Half Report: USC 24-UVA 7

While Ror enjoys his field pass and front row seat for the start of 2008, we’re watching USC and Virginia live on a Vermont ABC affiliate in Montreal (oui oui); while the view may not be as good, the results are all the same:

1.) Sanchez has looked solid, showing little, if any signs of slowing from that dislocated kneecap.

2.) The o-line and backfield have also looked as lethal as advertised. How about the holes being opened on the left side of the line?

3.) Damian Williams may be just the piece that the receiving corps was missing post-Smith/Jarrett. Add in Rojo and Vidal Hazelton, and we may finally be able to stop caring whether or not Patrick Turner ever recognizes his much-touted potential.

4.) That defense is just as nightmare-inducing as we expected. Maybe it’s just been awhile since we watched him, but Rey Maualuga looks even scarier than we remembered.

On the other side, it appeared that the Cavaliers were a bit shocked and awed out of the gate. But on both sides of the ball they toughened up in the 2nd quarter. Not sufficiently enough to put any fear into Trojan hearts just yet — but it’s safe to say they’re keeping USC honest, and providing a better warmup for the much-anticipated Sept. 13 showdown than Youngstown State gave the nonconference powder puff-loving Buckeyes.

What do you guys think? Are you not entertained?

  1. I can dig it!
