Question — how does a guy who routinely does this sort of thing to people:
Also manage to do something like this, in response to last week’s call for a Rey Maualuga birthday surprise for one little 5-year old fan? (from the birthday girl’s father and T-Wire regular Matt):
Rey called me yesterday and said that Sophia’s invitation “made his day.” Of course, his call made mine. I texted him my wife’s phone # and he replied, saying he’d call today (Saturday.) Sure enough, he called and wished Sophia a happy birthday, asked about the presents she’d received and which friends were coming to her party. Also, he reminded her to watch the game tonight. On our end, we heard such precious tibits as, “I got some clothes for my Barbies“ and “You’re my FAVORITE USC player.” It was as if we were living in the Mean Joe Green Coke commercial. Needless to say, we’re pretty blown away, with all of the preparations and obligations he has on game day, that Rey took the time and care to make the call. I’ll definitely be trading in my lucky SC polo for a #58 jersey. My wife has #8, so she added a 5 in front of it with gold tape.
Rey, if you’re reading this, you’re an amazing guy and I really appreciate the gesture. I didn’t think we could be bigger Trojan football fans but you took it up another notch. You made her day. Please be as disruptive and ill-tempered on the field as you are classy and big-hearted off it.
We’ll second that. Rey, thanks for responding to our message, getting in touch, making TrojanWire look good and most importantly, making a young Trojan fan’s birthday. Great things lie ahead for you sir.
