Troy Polamalu is the most interesting color story going into Super Bowl XLIII.

He made the biggest individual play to send his team to Tampa. Yahoo published a story about a pair of Atlanta Braves scouts that were interested in his “athletic grace” back when he played baseball at Douglas High School in the small town of Winston, Oregon. A New York Times blogger published a list of Polamalu quotes throughout the years called The Tao of Polamalu. An odd Q&A with the Pittsburgh Tribune (he owns three cars: a Range Rover, a BMW and a VW Vanagon). And he is the underdog to win the Bodog bet to be the first player tackled by his hair (that distinction goes to Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald).

But what is going to solidify his standing as the biggest Super Bowl sensation of 2009 is… an advertisement?

Troy Polamalu is starring in the remake of the most famous Coca-Cola commerical of all time — The Mean Joe Green commercial.

In the updated version, a young fan follows a limping Polamalu to the locker room and offers him a Coke Zero. The spot then takes an undisclosed twist that illustrates to viewers that it is possible to have, “Real Coke taste and zero calories,” the client said.

We know we’ll be judging it against the awesome Nike Fate commercial, but we hope the ad agency Crispin Porter + Bogusky can deliver. A little (nothing special) preview after the jump.
