Are you worried that only three starters return from the nation’s top defense in 2008? Coach Carroll’s response:

“We lost a lot of outstanding talent on the defensive side of the ball from last year,” said Coach Pete Carroll, who’s going into his ninth season at USC. “But we have the athleticism, speed and overall talent waiting in the wings to step up and carry the torch.”

Running backs coach Todd McNair’s reaction to not losing any RBs from last year:

“It feels good to not lose anyone because we have a heck of a lot of depth and the guys are experienced and seasoned. For the older guys, it’s a matter of polishing up their game. But in another sense, they’re all coming back and they’re all going to want the ball, so we’re going to have a little bit of a logjam at the position. But you’d rather have too many than not enough.”
