Linebacker Jarvis Jones is heading home. Jones, a sophomore, has decided to return to his home state of Georgia to play football for the Bulldogs. He will have to redshirt next year. Jones’ transfer was not a product of the NCAA sanctions, as he was granted a release some two weeks before the NCAA ruling.
Though impressive early in his collegiate career, Jones was sidelined with a neck injury last season that kept him off the field. As late as spring practice Jones could not participate because of the nagging injury, although he has now been medically cleared by the Georgia team.
And to sing him off into the sunset, here’s the incomparable Gladys Knight and the Pips with a song that foretold this young man’s future:
L A proved too much for the man
[He couldn’t make it]
So he’s leavin’ the life he’s come to know
[He said he’s goin’]
He said he’s goin’ back to find
Ooh, what’s left of his world
The world he left behind
Not so long ago…
