Lane Kiffin met with Allen Bradford earlier this week to discuss first-team reps in practice. After Bradford injured his knee last week the door opened for Marc Tyler to grab the starting tailback spot for the opener versus Hawaii. Tyler has been getting the majority of first-team reps this week and it looks like he will be the starter.
Bradford said of his meeting with Kiffin:
“[Kiffin] brought me in and talked to me and all I can do is respect the decision and just continue to play. I called my dad and let him know what happened and basically I looked at myself in the mirror. I’ve been through a lot. It’s just another challenge I have to embrace and accept.””I wasn’t as consistent in fall camp and I just have to bounce back from that and overcome adversity and go out there and be Allen Bradford and continue to fight. I just have to be more consistent. I was playing with little nagging injuries. I just have to overcome that and set that aside.”
I think this tailback competition will continue for the entire season and even if Tyler is named the starter there will still be plenty of carries and opportunities for Bradford and Dillon Baxter . Coach Kiffin was quoted as saying:
“Ideally in a perfect situation you’d like it to be somewhat shared because they stay fresher throughout the course of the season. We’re going to play the best guy and we’re going to play the best guys.”
This looks like a move by coach Kiffin to reward Tyler for his fall camp performance and to make Bradford even hungrier every time he touches the ball.
