Reggie Bush is giving his Heisman trophey back. What a hero….Can somebody say too little too late.

Here is Reggie’s full statement to the press:
“One of the greatest honors of my life was winning the Heisman Trophy in 2005. For me, it was a dream come true. But I know that the Heisman is not mine alone. Far from it. I know that my victory was made possible by the discipline and hard work of my teammates, the steady guidance of my coaches, the inspiration of the fans, and the unconditional love of my family and friends. And I know that any young man fortunate enough to win the Heisman enters into a family of sorts. Each individual carries the legacy of the award and each one is entrusted with its good name.
“It is for these reasons that I have made the difficult decision to forfeit my title as Heisman winner of 2005.”
“For the rest of my days, I will continue to strive to demonstrate through my actions and words that I was deserving of the confidence placed in me by the Heisman Trophy Trust. I would like to begin in this effort by turning a negative situation into a positive one by working with the Trustees to establish an educational program which will assist student-athletes and their families avoid some of the mistakes that I made. I am determined to view this event as an opportunity to help others and to advance the values and mission of the Heisman Trophy Trust.”

Update:
Be careful Trustee’s, Reggie isn’t the best when it comes to keeping promises. How is this story from back in Febuary when Bush pulled a Michael Scott and bailed out on his scholarship promises to two students that went to his high school. When it came time to pay the tuition, Bush’s reps did not return either of the students phone calls. Click here to read the artcle from 10News San Diego.

Comedian George Lopez heard about this despicable story, decided to step in and picked up the bill for Reggie. You can read that story by clicking here.
Lopez sent both students a check and didn’t call a press conference like Reggie did three years ago.
Bush signed a contract with the New Orleans Saints worth more than $50 million ($26 Million guaranteed) out of college so I don’t think he was low on funds because of the bad economy.
Bush is a great player, but a bad guy. To me this looks like just another selfish act by a selfish person that has never been told “no” his entire life. Bush is not doing the right thing here. This is an attempt to repair a badly damaged reputation for the wrong reasons. Bush’s endorsement deals have dried up and he is not even allowed back on the USC campus. He is scrambling to fix his public image.
The idea of establishing an educational program which will assist student-athletes and their families avoid some of the mistakes that Reggie and his family made is laughable. Reggie you were the only person on those teams that made that mistake. Or you were the only person dumb enough to get caught. Everyone knows the rules. The University’s compliance department goes over them with you all year round. Will this educational program cover mind-boggling questions like, If an agent offers your family a house in return for you to sign with that agent what you should say? I will a make bold prediction, this educational program that Reggie wants to establish will never exist.
The sanctions on USC would not have been so severe if Bush would have told the truth from day one. I can find countless quotes on the internet where Bush denied all of the allegations. But we all know now Bush is a liar. The worst part is Bush could have made this all go away by just paying back Lloyd Lake the $290,000 in gifts Lake gave his family. If he would have written that check to Lake he would still have his reputation, affiliation with the University, his Heisman trophy and USC would be playing for a BCS championship. Was all of this really worth $290,000 Reggie?
Bush only cares about one thing, himself. Great player, bad guy.
