Jim Mora went on Roger Lodge’s radio show on Wednesday and made some controversial comments that are causing a media stir. Mora brought up recruiting and how he sold UCLA to potential recruits,
“When you’re talking about UCLA, it’s one of the great schools in the world — not just America, but in the world. It’s a safe, beautiful campus in a great area of town. I mean, we don’t have murders one block off our campus.”
The “murders one block off our campus” is thought by anyone with a brain or common sense to be a cheap shot at USC. Two students were murdered in April near the USC campus. Mora insists that his comment had nothing to do with USC or any other school. Mora continued to put his foot in his mouth by saying…
“I just said our campus is safe. I didn’t say anything about anyone else’s campus. I just said it about our campus. I didn’t mention another campus. We don’t have anybody getting murdered a block off of our campus. If anybody, whether USC or Cal State San Bernardino, is offended by the statement, then that’s their insecurity, not mine.”
This is Mora’s attempt at blaming USC for his insensitive and irresponsible comments.
So how did Lane F*cking Kiffin respond? With the best answer ever,
“I don’t really think that’s something to joke about. That’s all I got to say about that.”
Kiffin went on to say that the USC campus is very safe
“And we have stats to show the facts, not opinions. It’s very expensive to go here and a lot of people send their kids here from around the world.”
And when asked about negative recruiting Kiffin responded,
“I would like to say that our staff does not negative recruit. There’s so many good things to talk about here, as far as the school and the history of the program. It’s the greatest place in the world, so there’s no need to talk about other places.”
Kiffin is basically saying we don’t negative recruit…because we don’t have to.
Stay classy UCLA.
