We’ve alluded to the ‘clock start’ rule change earlier this year and hopefully we’ve effectively expressed our disgust. Like most people who take the time to maintain a blog about their favorite team, we’d just as soon see MORE football — not less — so we’re not too thrilled with the TV-minded tinkering.
Now Texas coach Mack Brown has added himself to the list of clock-change disgruntled. Discussing the role that the rule changes supposedly played in the the Longhorns’ 24-7 loss to Ohio State, Brown said:
“They scored with six minutes left and the game was over before we had a chance to do anything. I really hope whoever made these changes will go back and look them over.”
Mack, we agree — we hope the rules committee does go back and look things over. We just hope they don’t watch Saturday’s game as evidence arguing against their decision. The way the Longhorns were playing — 10 fewer minutes was an act of mercy, not madness.
