For all who think Sanchez is USC’s Panacea, Booty has a message.
The countdown is upon us and the whole nation is watching. The showdown against Arizona is less than three days away and low and behold, Sanchez is still sitting in the captain’s seat.
John-David Booty sat out of practice again on Wednesday, resting the broken finger on his throwing hand. This comes a day after he attempted to get back in the running for Saturday’s start, attempting some fifty passes on Tuesday’s practice, which in-turn caused the injury to flare up again.

Booty doesn’t want to force himself into the game unhealed if it means jeopardizing the rest of the season. He wants to be 100% with road battles against Oregon, Cal and ASU lying just weeks ahead. As reported by Gary Klein of the LA Times, Booty had these comments regarding his injury:
“I don’t want to force and press it and here I’m out two, three weeks because of something I could have been out only a week,” Booty said.
When asked if he’s worried about losing the starting job to Sanchez:
“I’m really not worried about that,” Booty said. “I just want our team to play good football, that’s the bottom line. I want us to win, and if I’m not in there I think Mark gives us the best shot to do that. And I’m looking for him to play well if his number is called.”
Don’t be too surprised if Pete pulls a last minute switch, tossing JDB in or even Michael McDonald into the Saturday’s game plan. But it’s looking more and more like it’s a safe bet that the Sanchez camp will get their wish. Will Sanchez rise to the stardom as in typical USC quarterback fashion? Or will he, along with USC’s remaining thread of title hopes, crash and burn at the hands of the Wildcats?
One thing is for certain: it is going to be an interesting game. And hopefully a very different type of “interesting” than befell the Trojans last weekend.
