USC Needs ‘That Guy’

The biggest thing missing on the USC defense right now is a play making linebacker. Someone that can get to the quarterback, force fumbles and wreak havoc on opposing offenses. Clay Matthews was that guy at USC and now he is that guy for the Green Bay Packers. Matthews was the NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September. He is leading the NFL with 7 sacks and is becoming a fan favorite in Green Bay.

ESPN’s Elizabeth Merrill wrote a nice feature today on the former Trojan about his current life in Green Bay and how he grew up as the slow skinny kid. Hopefully some of our linebackers check this article out and get inspired. Matthews success at USC and road to the NFL was all about sacrafices, hard work and over coming obstacles. Even though he was blessed with great genetics, he still has made the most of his abilities and is dedicated to always getting better.

Clay Matthews wanted to ‘be that guy’ [espn]

  1. USC’s defense sucks!!!!! As a life long fan of USC football I have never seen a defensive team so bad. They can’t tackle, they are out of position, they are just BAD!

  2. Clay is a total stud and you’re right, we need a LB just like him around.
Keith Rivers, Lofa Tatupu, Thomas Williams, Rey Maualuga, Kaluka Maiava, Brian Cushing and Clay Matthews! That’s how much we’ve lost and desperately need back!!!!!!

  3. Clay’s not only kicking butt in the pros, but he’s obviously angling for some of that lucrative Polamalu shampoo endorsement money. Fight On!
